Susan Healey
Wellington County

I’m happy to play a role in helping to value and preserve Ontario’s old barns. I look forward to learning from long term members of OBP and sharing that knowledge with others!

Gary Aikema
Norfolk, Oxford, Brant, Haldimand, Hamilton, and Niagara

I am a retired building contractor. I have built mostly the high-end homes, some commercial work and also a number of farm structures. My company is called Allandale Homes and is currently run by my grandson.
I’ve owned three different hobby farms in the Flamborough area. On each farm the barns were either moved or significantly repaired or disassembled and moved from offsite and rebuilt.
Rural Ontario farm clusters have always intrigued me. Ever since childhood I loved being in bank barns and would like to help see to it that these buildings are not lost.

Oxford

Shane and his wife operate an organic dairy farm and beekeeping business in Oxford county. With a historic bank barn on the farm, Shane continues to develop traditional skills such as hand hewing, timber framing, and traditional stone masonry. He will take any opportunity to tour an old barn and increase his knowledge of historic Oxford County barn layouts and building methods.

John Busch
Middlesex, Elgin, Chatham-Kent, Essex, and Lambton. (Includes London, Strathroy, and St. Thomas)

I was born and raised on a farm in Bruce County and farmed for a few years with my brother on a mixed farming operation. I remember something I attribute to my Dad: look after the siding, roofing and drainage on your barn and it will last forever.
I worked for the Government of Canada for 32 years, and retired to St Thomas, Ontario in 2005. Since retiring, I started taking photos of barn quilts on the Talbot Trail, moved on to barn photos and old rural churches. Occasionally, I can take the time to get inside interesting barns and extensively photograph the interior of the barn. I believe any barn that I have photographed which is deteriorating and in danger of falling has a pictorial history of why it is failing. We just need to expose it.
I want to work towards helping identify those barns which are failing and help provide advice and expertise to the owner to keep the barn intact. Acquiring all the photos of old barns is a bonus.

This could be you!!
