What is the Goal?

  • To recognize an individual or organization whose contributions represent outstanding achievement in the preservation of barns in Ontario.

Who is Eligible to be Nominated for the Award?

  • Nominees can include individuals, organizations, museums, archives, corporations, companies, municipalities, not-for-profit organizations within Ontario.
  • OBP Directors and Regional Representatives are not eligible.

Who Can Make a Nomination?

  • Nominations can be made by anyone (OBP members or non-members), including OBP Directors and Regional Representatives.

Criteria for Nomination and Selection

  • Evaluation of Nominees will be aligned to the OBP Vision of saving Ontario barns (their architecture, cultural history, and contribution to our rural landscape) and include their leadership, impact, and innovation related to barn preservation in Ontario.
  • Examples of barn preservation can include history or research projects, working barn conservation/preservation, adaptive reuse of a barn, lifetime achievement in barn preservation, educational initiatives that raise awareness of barns, public engagement through barn preservation events or media.

Application Process

  • The Award will be administered and selected by the OBP Awards Committee.
  • Nominations can be received throughout the year, with a cutoff date of February 15th for the award issued at the OBP Annual Meeting in April of the same year.
  • Submit nominations on the OBP Award of Excellence webpage in the Ontario Barn Preservation website (ontariobarnpreservation.com).
